DETAILED ITINERARY

 

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) - Arrive in Ulaanbaatar

Welcome to Ulaanbaatar (UB), the capital city of Mongolia. Upon arrival at Chinggis Khaan international airport you will be transferred to the hotel. After a short rest, we start our exploration by visiting Sukhbaatar Square, Zaisan Hill, Gandan Monastery and the Natural History Museum. Overnight in UB.  

 

Day 2: Flight to Bayan Ulgii Province

 

After early breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the airport to board your flight to Ulgii city in western Mongolia. Upon arrival at Ulgii airport you will be met by our guide and drivers who will take you to a local market to help you buy some groceries for your trip. And then we drive for about 85 km to our lunch stop by the bank of the Khovd river which flows from the magnificent  Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain. After lunch we continue our journey further for about 100 km to reach the Tsagaan gol, or the White river which flows from the glacier of the Altai Mountains in the National Park. Along the way we enjoy sites of ancient deer stones and burials. Upon arrival at the park, we will erect our tents and have dinner. Stay overnight in tents.

 

Day 3: Trek to base camp (2600 meter)

After breakfast, we pack our luggage, camp equipment and food supplies and load them on our porter camels and horses. We will also ride camels and horses and start the trekking on muddy roads for about 20 – 22 km until we reach a small river to have our packed lunch around 2 pm. You can choose to walk if you want. After resting by the river for about half an hour, we continue 3-4 hours of trekking and reach our base camp which is on the edge of the Potanin’s Glacier, 2600 meter above sea level. Stay overnight in tents.

 

Day 4: Malchin peak (4050 meter)

This day we will spend on acclimatization for the climb to Malchin peak elevated at 4050 meters above sea level. You don’t need special mountain climbing equipment to climb this peak because it is the lowest of the five peaks of Tavan Bogd Mountain. If we start at 7am in the morning we will come back around 4pm in the afternoon to the base camp. We will have a packed lunch. You can enjoy beautiful views over the glacier as well as great summits of Altai Mountain range. Stay overnight in tent.

 

Day 5 : Tsagaan gol valley

After breakfast, we continue trekking for 12kms along the Tsagaan River through a stunning valley to the Khuiten Peak, the highest point in Mongolia. It will take about 5-6 hours of trekking. There will be porter camels and horses to take care of the luggage. Stay overnight in tents.

 

Day 6: Khuiten Peak (4374 meter)

Today, if the weather is good, we will start climbing the Khuiten peak at 4am. Depending on climbers skills it will be about 6 hours of climbing. It will take about 4 hours to come back to the ABC camp. Have lunch and rest there. We will spend another 4 hours to go back to the base camp. Day 7: Back to National Park

We will take a different route when we come back to the National park. It will take about 24 km. Relax and stay overnight in tents.

 

This day we will relax at the same campsite. While enjoying the scenic area you will have an opportunity to learn how to make a traditional Mongolian dish. Stay overnight in tents near the river. BLD

 

Day 8: Back to Ulgii

This morning, we will say goodbye to our local guides, camp assistants and pack animals and continue our travel by minivan. Drive along the Hoton & Hurgan Lake for about 2 hours. Take photos of stunning reflections of neighboring snowcapped peaks drifting on the lake surface. Travel back to Ulgii town for 8-9 hours about 230 km. In Ulgii, we will visit the local Tuvan and Kazakh eagle hunter families, visit a local museum and in the evening enjoy a traditional cultural show.

 

Day 9. Flight back to Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast we fly back to UB. Upon arrival at UB airport, you will be transferred to the hotel for you to relax. Feel free to explore. In the evening enjoy a traditional Mongolian cultural show.  Overnight in UB. 

 

Day 10: Tsonjin Boldog - The Chinggis Khan Statue

After breakfast at the hotel, leave for the big Chinggis Khan's Statue located at Tsonjin Boldog 54 km from UB. This giant 40 meters tall statue was built in a legendary place believed that the Great King found a golden whip. You walk to the head of the horse through its chest and neck and on top of it you can enjoy a panoramic view. Also, you will be guided to the museum shows exhibitions relating to the Bronze Age and Xiongnu archaeological cultures in Mongolia as well as the Great Khan period in the 13 and 14th centuries which has ancient tools, golden objects and some Nestorian crosses and rosaries. From there we drive back to UB and visit the Gobi Cashmere factory store to shop for beautiful Mongolian cashmere products. Overnight in UB. 

 

Day 11: Departure from Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the Chinggis Khaan International Airport to board your flight to your home country, or your next destination country.
